Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions or concerns you can call 1300 898 963 or email info@affinitytherapy.net.au

You do not need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP/Psychiatrist to see a Psychologist.  However, having an MHCP allows you to receive a Medicare rebate for a psychologist appointment, reducing the out-of-pocket cost. The current Medicare rebate for a psychologist is $98.65 per session, and up to 10 sessions per calendar year are eligible for rebates.

Please send a copy of your Mental Health Care Plan via our online contact form or to info@affinitytherapy.net.au so we can call you to complete the intake process. Your doctor may have also sent a copy of your referral, which will allow you to receive a Medicare rebate.

You can call Jessica on 1300 898 963 or send a message through the online contact form to arrange an intake call. You do not need an MHCP to access therapy, and private-paying clients are welcome.

This varies and will depend on your concerns and various personal factors. Most people will use 10 sessions with a Mental Health Care plan (MHCP). It is not uncommon for people to continue therapy even after they have used all 10 sessions on the MHCP. It can take more or it can take less sessions before you are feeling more confident.

Sessions typically last between 40-50 minutes, depending on the discussion and your therapeutic needs. Affinity Therapy also offers after-hours appointments and Saturday appointments to accommodate busy schedules.

Yes, Jessica is accepting new clients for therapy and ADHD assessments in 2025.

Affinity Therapy offers reduced rates and/or bulk billing for eligible clients. You will need to discuss this during the intake process or with your psychologist directly.

Yes, you can use your private health insurance instead of Medicare. All or some of the cost may be claimed depending on your insurance provider. However, you cannot claim a Medicare rebate and private health insurance on the same psychologist appointment.

Affinity Therapy does not currently accept TAC and Workcover referrals. However, we accept NDIS plan-managed and self-managed referrals.

Unfortunately, ADHD assessments are not covered by Medicare and must be paid for out-of-pocket before the assessment process begins. However, we offer flexible payment plans to make the process more accessible.

Appointments that are cancelled within 48 hours will incur a 50% cancellation fee. Appointments cancelled within 24 hours will be charged 100% of the session fee. Medicare rebates cannot be claimed on cancellation fees.

No, only your GP or a Psychiatrist can prescribe medication. Your psychologist can help support you in finding a psychiatrist.

No, Psychologists at Affinity Therapy are not trained in forensics and cannot provide court reports.

If you want support for something that is not listed on our website, we can still help. Jessica works with a range of concerns. Please get in contact with us on 1300 898 963 or email info@affinitytherapy.net.au and we can arrange for you to have a call with Jessica to determine suitability.
